Since I am a dumbass I decided to check out the website. This was about a month ago. What I found was not something that installed spyware all over my computer (I think). What I found was a bizarre webpage programmed by someone with very basic html skills. It was some sort of promotion for Buddhism, I think. It was a list of quotes from famous people, with random words as hyperlinks taking you to various websites instructing you to transcend, abandon your essence, or achieve enlightenment some way or other. Or something.

Then there were a bunch of weird surreal pictures near the bottom, a couple of them by MC Escher. Each of these pictures linked to a different mp3. They make a pretty good mix.

Here they are. It's an ambient/downbeat mix about an hour long. Named after the name of the webpage.

Sigur Ros is hella Icelandic. These guys sing in their own language, man. They do what they want. One time, the guitarist used a cello bow on his guitar instead of hitting it with his hand. Except instead of one time it was every time they performed. They play by their OWN rules. Their own Icelandic rules. You couldn't understand. Bjork could though. She's Icelandic.

The album Takk... was originally going to be the soundtrack to a new hit Nickelodeon video game based on their Takk... and the Power of JuJu other video games. When Sigur Ros heard that the game was going to feature shamanism they backed out. Nickelodeon was cool with it, and told them they were sorry for not mentioning it beforehand. Sigur Ros asked if they could release the album anyway, and Nick was all, "Sure, heck, you wrote it, it's your music."

That is how it went down.

Interpol - Our Love To Admire

In between facilitating international police cooperation as well as trying to capture Lupin the third Interpol managed to put out a couple badass albums and a couple EPs. I have no idea how they have the time to rock out what with all the criminal activity they have to stop and international policing they have to do, but somehow they do it.

About halfway through the first track, Pioneer to the Falls, I realized (as you may as well) "Oh yeah, Interpol is a sweet band. I kinda forgot just how sweet they were. Are. Now I remember."

Our Love To Admire doesn't come out until tomorrow, but heck, I love you guys so much. Here you go.

What's with those lions? What do they represent? Is that gazelle thing supposed to represent Interpol, and the lions are like whatever their personal demons are? Do they feel overwhelmed by the pressures of being rock stars as well as international policemen? Or maybe the lions are supposed to be Interpol, and the gazelle is just a gazelle, because they always wanted to be lions and they hate gazelle. I don't even know if that's a gazelle, man. That could be like some kind of deer for all I know.

Guess Who's Comin? (DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...)

It's just your favorite DJ savior!

I already had a couple albums uploaded, so I'll post one right now.

DJ Shadow is from the Bay Area! I am too. His first album, Endtroducing, is all about kicking back and chilling and thinking about Midnight and Shadows and Souls. The first track has some people talking about stuff. It's lame, but it's short. The second track, Building Steam With a Grain of Salt is serene and hypnotic and spooky. It sets the tone for a serene and hypnotic and spooky album. This album remains solid all the way through, unlike everything he made after it. 1996 is over 10 years ago. Man. It's hard to believe that I've been listening to this album for so long.

Downbeat/chill music has come a long way. This was the first. DJ Shadow is kind of like Everquest. EQ did it first, and did it right, and set the standard. It can even be argued that it's better than every MMO that has come out since then, but it's a pretty flimsy argument. So why am I even posting this album? Now I have no idea.

Here it is. I will update it with music for you to download and listen to and put onto your portable mp3 player and play while you are walking to the park or maybe Taco Bell or maybe the library or maybe your car. You can also just listen to it on your computer, or you can burn it onto a CD and then play it at work.

It's music that I like. I will post it and talk about it a little bit, usually.
